I became a shutterbug when I handled my first camera in a toylike fashion at the age of six. I was captivated by how a magic black box could capture light and a moment in time in an image format that mirrored reality with precise detail. Through all the years and all the advances in technology, the basic principle of capturing a moment has not changed and still fascinates me to this day.
I began learning about the craft of photography in high school photography classes, to understand the film process and the history of the medium. I learned why the work of Ansel Adams set a standard that is still considered outstanding today, and how to mimic him. In college I learned about other mediums of art and design that I carry into the practice of photography, including composition and design and of course color theory.
In my 30’s I lived in the UK for almost a decade where I continued to photograph and develop my interest in the art. I was lucky enough to have time to cycle around and find places where I could photograph ancient structures and historic places. In the UK there is a limit to the amount of light and sunny days to take advantage of, so one tends to focus more on the other elements of a photograph, such composition or arrangement of the subject matter in juxtaposition with secondary elements within the picture. Colors tend to be more subdued and even mottled on the far end when the day is foggy, or richer when there is some sort of artificial light or when the subject is closer, but seldom are they vibrant or vivid, forcing the photographer to work with other elements of the medium. It was an opportunity to learn rather than a stop to the work.
Coming back to the US with different perspective on light and composition and I now combine my life experiences to create my vision. Though I have taken some strategic pauses for the sake of family life, I am now stepping out again as a photographer from our small hobby farm in Preston, Idaho. It is my ambition to make images that I can share with you, or that you commission for yourself, such as family portraits or photos to advertise your small farm or business.
Our hobby farm is about integrating as a part of our community to provide art, art supplies, and services to our local community, and the world beyond. We have websites related to these endeavors. The farm can be found at:

Disclaimer
As an interesting coincidence, there is another Kelsey Bacon who is also a photographer, and who was born pretty much in the same California town as me. Last I was aware, she is based out of Morgantown, West Virginia, where my grandfather’s family was from; another strange thing. She is an excellent and experienced photographer, and I would highly recommend her. I am not her, and she is not me. If you are looking for a photographer in the Morgantown area, please click the link below!
